Oukado proudly offers authentic Takayama Chasen, handcrafted tea whisks made in Takayama Village, Nara Prefecture—the only place in Japan where traditional Chasen are still produced.

The tradition began in the Muromachi period, when Lord Takayama Sosetsu and tea master Juko Murata collaborated to create a whisk specifically for the Wabi-cha style of tea ceremony. Since then, Takayama has become Japan’s center of Chasen-making, with skills passed down through generations using the rare “isshi-sōden” tradition—where techniques are shared from father to only one child.

Each Takayama Chasen is a product of this deep lineage: a tool made not only for whisking tea, but for connecting to centuries of heritage, precision, and care.
