Mariko Tea - Our Story
In the quiet hills of Mariko, Shizuoka, where mist rolls gently over tea fields and history lingers in the soil, a remarkable story continues to steep.
This tea comes from the garden of the late Mr. Niroku Muramatsu, a beloved grower and one of the pioneering figures in Wakocha — Japanese black tea. For decades, he devoted himself to perfecting the art of tea and sharing his knowledge with the next generation. Without his quiet determination and vision, Japan’s black tea industry would not be what it is today.
Even at 84, he was still producing tea and teaching others — right up until the day before he passed away in October. His life was dedicated to the craft he loved.
Today, his legacy lives on through his wife, who lovingly continues the work they began together. She tends the fields and carries forward the spirit of care, craftsmanship, and tradition that defined Mr. Muramatsu’s life. Together, through this tea, their story continues.
Each sip is a tribute to devotion, heritage, and enduring love.
